Green Party

By Pegah Aarabi

Eco-living shouldn’t be a chore, so to make your “green’ lifestyle fun why not have a girl’s night in with a “green” theme or a “green” cocktail party? Here are ten ways to turn your next event into a greeny good time!

  1. Get everyone to wear green. It won’t do anything for the environment but it will get everyone in the theme. Alternatively you can leave your guests with the option of wearing organic cotton – bonus points if it’s green.
  2. Ask everyone to take public transportation or car pool. It makes getting there easier and for public transit users there’s the added cocktail bonus.
  3. Serve only organic drinks and foods. Serve organic fruits and vegetables, organic wines and organic meals (store-bought BBQ chicken is a quick and easy option). Organic chocolate and chips are always a hit. There are lots of inexpensive organic options so be sure to shop around for the best deals.
  4. Use the fine china. It’s been sitting there for months (ok years) and there’s no point in wasting money and creating waste with disposable items. As an added bonus, it’ll make your guests feel special.
  5. Make your bathroom/kitchen organic ready. Have organic soaps and lotions out, replace old towels with organic cotton towel, and buy biodegradable bathroom tissue and paper towels.
  6. Order a bouquet of fresh organic flowers. Make this the only decoration you have and expect all the “wow that’s gorgeous” compliments.
  7. Show environmentally conscious films. Rather than music, have eco-conscious movies playing in the background like the beloved March of the Penguins or the wise An Inconvenient Truth.
  8. Make it a swap party. Have everyone bring in one item that is still wearable (preferably accessories because clothes can be tricky) and they can then exchange it for another item of their choice. Make sure there are an even number of guests for this to work and have everyone bring in things of relatively equal value. This is a fun-filled way to recycle!
  9. Play green-inspired games. Use Karma Coaching cards or make an environmentally friendly quiz with questions like “how often do you car pool/bike to work” to see who is the greenest one of all.
  10. Offer your guests eco-friendly favors. Everyone would love an extra energy-efficient light-bulb or reusable grocery bag.
