Launching yourself into the work force can seem daunting. Whether you are finally ditching the books to start your first real job or you’re getting back into the race after some time off with the kids – making the switch can be a lot easier and cheaper with a game plan.
Getting ready for work often means getting ready for office wear. This is not the time for impulse buys, or super trendy items (save that for when you get your first bonus!). Create a work-week fashion schedule based on basics – one pencil skirt and one perfect pant can be the base for countless combinations. Take this schedule with you when you shop so that you don’t veer off course.
One of the best back-to-work budget survival tips is to get into a routine. Routines help to take the mental pressure off of stressful day-to-day choices, and can give you things to look forward to throughout the weekly grind. Be sure to incorporate a few budget-friendly treats into your schedule: plan time for a Saturday morning walk with friends, rent movies for a restful night in instead of paying big bucks for a trip to the movie theatre.
Other tried and true ways to save: packing your own lunch at least a few days a week, taking public transit – or even better – riding a bicycle, all quickly add up in savings. Before you know it, you will be back to work on budget and in style!
Here's this week's work-wear pick...
