Default Where to buy Engagement Ring?

Hey everyone. I am looking to buy an engagement ring very soon. Just wondering where is the best places to buy? price? trustworthiness?

I have looked online a little bit. How about places like Birks and Tiffany's? They seemed a bit expensive there compared to online.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

i guess when you r thinking of buying a diamond ring, you have to have in mind how it looks like. Most likely, u will have to look around. Most stores offer selected composition (materials) and cuts and stones.. depends on ur budget. in terms of trustworthy, peoples jewellers is the best spot to start, but there is mappins, the diamond company and even luk fuk store if u are look for gold -related rings.

Thanks for your reply princess and where to look. I will check them out for sure.

I have been doing research and looking at the 4 Cs. My budget is around $5000. I have looked at bluenile.ca and am going to check out Spence diamonds this weekend. Went to Tiffany's and Birks and they are quite pricey. My friend said I should look for a broker, but I dont' know anyone like that and who knows where they get their diamonds from.

Was thinking of a round diamond 3/4 carat, but obviously bigger is better. I am not in a big rush though. hopefully i can compare some prices with all these different souces.

Default Go independent

If you're in the GTA, I have a great recommendation of an independent jeweller that will design a ring exactly how you want it.

It's called Diamond Moments - and it's just off Dundas Square in a little jewelry center called HNR I think. Don't be turned off by the atmosphere. Edmund is the designer and he's amazing and the prices are even better.

Go and try on multiple different rings at Tiffanys, Birks or where ever - then take in a picture or idea of what you want. He'll sketch out the ring for your approval. They will work with you to choose a stone of the size, colour, clarity etc that works with your budget. You choose the type of gold or platinum for the band.

He did my engagement ring, both of our wedding bands, I've had friends use him too. It's usually about 1/3 to 1/2 of what you would pay for the same ring at one of the big fancy stores.

Hope that helps!

And just to add...please make sure you ask to see the Certificate of Origin for any diamond you are interested in buying to ensure that you are not purchasing any grey-market conflict(AKA "blood") diamonds. I don't want to sound like a sourpuss but a legitimate jeweler will not be offended if you ask and in fact will go to great lengths to prove that your diamond is from a verifiable source .
The bigger companies like Tiffanys, Birks, etc. are very vocal in their mandate to not sell any conflict diamonds.

I have to agree..Bluenile.ca is a very reliable source. Your purchase includes all duties and shipping. (unfortunately about the CDN dollar tho) My engagement ring from my husband came with 2 certs. Very reliable. And the diamonds are beautiful. Each diamond also has a number engraved in it so it matches the cert.
