  • LouLou Prescriptives Warning — Stock Up Before It's Too Late!

    By Maria Barillaro

It's such sad news. Prescriptives is closing its doors on January 31, 2010. I don't know why it's closing but more importantly, I don't know how I'm going to live without their Camouflage Cream. I spoke with the lovely ladies at Holt Renfrew in Montreal yesterday and they confirmed that Prescriptives products are still in stock--for now!

The Prescriptives counters at Holt Renfrew will remain open until January 2010 and they'll even be receiving new shipments of beauty products between now and then. The one ick? No one can say for certain how long the products will last. Prescriptives will be open but stock may run out before January 2010.

My advice? STOCK UP NOW! I bought the last two tubes of Camouflage Cream left in Yellow/Orange Light (sorry ladies!) at Holts in Montreal this week. The woman at the counter told me they can last up to two years. So I'm safe, but not for long. If you're a fan of Prescriptives, I suggest you get to a counter near you ASAP. According to our sources at Holts, customers are already stocking up.

  • Your Shop Girl — How To Look Like A Celebrity

    By Suzanne Colmer

Most of my clients come to me wanting to be more put together or fashionable. While I look at every client's colour, style and body type individually, there are a few tips that can apply to anyone looking to coordinate their style, courtesy of the hottest celebs:

Put on an accessory: Whether it's a necklace, scarf or belt — don't walk out of the house without throwing on one accessory. It's what takes simple clothes into classic outfits.

Choose quality over quantity: You should be able to reach into your closet and pick any two items to create a fabulous outfit. You only need a few basics to create an extensive wardrobe.

A little make-up goes a long way: Mascara, concealer and lipgloss — don't leave home without them! I don't care if you are walking your dog, you never know who you are going to bump into. Just remember to stick to colours that suit your complexion rather than overpower it.

Invest in a great coat and pair of boots: As I walked down the Champs-Élysées in Paris this spring, fab coats and boots were on every Parisian woman. If you have a great coat and boots on it doesn't matter what you have on underneath.

Lastly, there is nothing more appealing than confidence. Hold your head high and strut your stuff. If you feel good about yourself, then you will look even better (even better than Paris Hilton!).

  • LouLou Hair Diaries — The New Flat Iron In Town

    By Maria Barillaro

If you're hair-obsessed (like I am) then you'll be happy to know that there's a new beauty brand on the block this fall. Rowenta Beauty is a new line of hair tools that recently caught my eye.

I am woman enough to confess that my hair is what consumes most of my time every morning. It's the only reason I'm ever late for work! I have bangs, so that automatically means an extra 10 minutes just coiffing them. (If the bangs are messed up, the whole 'do is just wrong.)

The object of my affection today? The Straight & Curl 2-in-1 iron (valued at $179). It's thin and powerful, so it's super easy to go from curly to straight with it.

I have pin-straight hair and curling irons are useless on me. But when I curl my hair with a flat iron, the curls last because the humidity is removed from my tresses. If it works on my broomstick hair, it'll work on just about anyone!

This new collection will be available in select salons only. Check out Rowenta Beauty's retailer list to find out where you can get a tool from the new collection. Are you anxious to find out what this line is like? What's your must-have beauty tool?

(Psst: For those of you who still need a hair fix for the day, don't forget to check out our latest feature — The Best Celebrity Bangs.)
  • Your Shop Girl — Fall's Inner Rebel

    By Suzanne Colmer

Still haven’t picked up your fall essentials? It’s as simple as finding your inner rebel with the season’s top five trends:

    Strong Shoulders
This trend was all over the runways for fall. If you carry your weight in your hips a slight extension in the shoulder can help to balance you out. My favourite, the Jaeger London Jacket, is a great example of how to incorporate the trend into your everyday wardrobe.

    Exposed Zippers
I have always thought that the zipper did not get enough attention! This fall, the zipper makes its debut, featured front and centre on everything from dresses to tights. Pair these Shopbop.com Parker Leggings with a great pair of boots for a biker chic look.

    Cut-outs
Get ready to cut holes in your Spanx ladies...cut-outs are here! At least we have a choice about what part of our bodies we want to show. The most coveted piece of the season is the cut-out mini skirt. Wear it with a blazer or a tee. If you’re not ready to show parts of your body, try a cut-out illusion look like this French Connection Dress.

    Bootie
I am happy to say that the bootie is still going strong. However, just like everything else this season, it has toughened up. Pair them with an opaque tight and wool skirt for work. I love this Juicy Couture pair.

    Thigh High
From Marc Jacobs to Alexander McQueen, everyone is going thigh high! While this trend is a great way to lengthen the leg, it does not work for anyone with short calves, since the boots will not break in the right place. Remember that these are meant to be the centre of attention, so pair them with something classic to avoid looking over the top. These Steve Madden Montrell boots work both over-the-knee and below.

    Now you’re set for fall!

  • LouLou — Does Angelina Make You Swoon For Leather

    By Maria Barillaro

Angelina Jolie showed up with hubby Brad Pitt to the premiere of Brad’s new flick, Inglorious Bastards in L.A. a few weeks ago; now I can’t get the Michael Kors fitted leather tube dress she was wearing out of my head.

After seeing Angelina’s sexy black leather dress, the September issue of LOULOU made its way onto my desk. I landed on page 73 and saw yet another leather dress. I personally take it as a sign. The universe is telling me to get one!

Fall '09 is all about leather – real or faux (for our animal-friendly chicas). But I’m still on the fence. Is it too much? How do I avoid over accessorizing a leather dress?

After asking myself these questions and taking another peek at Angie’s seductive look, I have decided to go for it! BUT, there are some ground rules every leather-obsessed fashionista should abide by:
    • Keep your leather outfit to a minimum. Don’t pair your leather dress and leather boots with your leather jacket. Opt for one leather piece.
    • Let the eye-candy leather statement piece do the talking, so no accessories needed.
    • Don’t attempt to be office chic with this look. Reserve body-conscious leather dresses for the weekends and nights out.
What do you think? Are you hot on the leather (real or faux) trend this year, or is it just too much for your taste?
